Beyond the Pool: How to Style Swimwear for the Rest of Your Vacation
Summer is not over. Even though fashion discussions have turned to Fall, I have clients who have not left for their vacations yet — and getting them ready to travel the world is one of my favorite services.
One thing we always do is style your swimwear to be worn in numerous different ways. It is super chic, and it cuts down on packing. Your vacation wardrobe should take you from beach to lunch, pool to shopping, and out to dinner at night.
Start with the right suits
The suits you take matter a lot. If you have been working with me, we have built you a stylish and versatile collection. This might include:
- A black bikini
- A neutral or white bikini
- A bandeau as well as a triangle style
- A couple of great one-piece suits
- A metallic suit, which is always a good idea
The black bikini, three ways
The black bikini with a printed maxi skirt or sarong is perfect to head waterside. Wear a great sandal or a pair of flip flops and you are ready to go.
Want to walk around town or head to the resort restaurant? You will feel pulled together and ready to go — no need to head back to the room to change.
One piece, from pool to evening
A sleek one-piece can serve numerous purposes. Pair it with a beach pant as you head poolside. By night, pair it with distressed jeans, a slide or a wedge, and a great clutch, and you are ready to go out.
What to wear under a sheer dress
I have purchased more than one sheer dress for clients to take away for the summer or on vacation. The first question is always the same: What do I wear underneath that?
The answer is simple — a bikini bottom. A great solid neutral, and you will look beachy and intentional.
The takeaway
The key is to pack swimwear like you would pack any other foundational pieces: a few strong suits that you love, then build your wardrobe around them.
Fewer outfit changes, less luggage, and you will always look and feel chic.
